Solar energy is used for many different objects ans sytems as power. You can power up your whole house, car, cell phone charger, air conditioners, fans, ect... Solar power panels work by the power of the sun giving the panels power to transfer to any object and systems. The sun's power converts to power for the panels to use.This type of energy source is renewable. These panels can power up anything inside your house an out. There are three different solar cells that work in different ways and amounts:
Single crystal- the cells that are made out of long cylinders and sliced into round or hexagonal wafers. This type of energy is inexpensive, but is wasteful of material, this produces the most amount of enegy, as high as 25% in some labortory test.
Polycrystalline- the cells that are made out of molten silicon that are made in to ingots or pounded into thin sheets. This type of energy is inexpensive, but this produces less amount of energy, around 15%. Since the cells are square, they can be packed together very closely.
Amorphous Silicon(a-Si)- the cells that are made of silicon sprayed onto a glass or metal surface in the thin sheets. This type of energy is leastr expensive, but produces the least amount of energy, about 5%.
